Try engeneering workshop
On the 10th of April our class 3rd CDhad an "Try engeneering workshop". The workshop was carried out by 2 students of the UIB. The students 1st explained us the basic concept of engeneering and then toold us what we had to do. The project whe had to do was to make a windmill which was able to turn rotating motion into linear motion; which means the windmill had to be able to lift a tea sac.The materials they gave us were: scissors, a wooden plank, spoons, wooden sticks, tape, elastics, aluminium, plastic, straws, string and a tea sac.
1st we all decided what we should do and how. We had a great idea, it was perfect but the only little problem it had finally turned up tu be a very big problem.
We made the 4 walls of a windmill and sticked them together with a LOT of tape. Then we joined 4 wooden sticks (with a lot of tape) and attached the sac tea (with a lot of tape) to it. Then whe made 2 holes in the windmill and we put the 4 sticks in. We were the most advanced team. Our idea was to join 6 sticks in a 54 degree angle to the stick, but the little big problem was that we had no way of sticking them because the sticking surface was to small. We tried by using tape but it didn't work out very well (you know, tape doesn't solve all problems). So we decided to join the spoons to the sticks and attach the sticks to the main stick of the mill with... you got it: tape. At the end there wass too much tape o 1 part of the mill so that the spoons couldn't rotate well. The useful tape which seemed to be our saviour at the end was our problem.
All in one it was a great experience, we had a LOT of fun and it was very interesting. Also the students were really nice. At the end it didn't matter that the mill didn't work because we learned 2 things: 1st Tape doesn't save all your problems, and 2nd if we ever need to design a house there better be no one near...
